  • Last Time!

Today I drove my youngest son to the DMV to get his driver’s permit.  He passed the knowledge test and came out grinning!  My husband was shocked last night to be told  that I had allowed the two older boys to drive home from the test.  He firmly requested that I drive home and we take our youngest son to get experience driving on some vacant parking lots and deserted country roads before he starts driving around town.

So we dance this polka one more time. The last time.  This is the place where I learn so much about myself.  The calm and patient woman I pretend to be disappears and the fearful worrier/shrieking “Old Yellor”  takes her place.  I pray.  I plead with God for help trusting Him, being careful with my words and tones.  I remember my brother, who took me out driving and never raised his voice as he said, “Uh…, you just cut that driver off.” But then a tiny gasp escapes and the driver/son is irritated wondering what he did wrong.  Part of me would really like to skip forward two years – but I need this don’t I? (grin)

  • AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! help me!

  • I am within thirty days of DD#4 getting her full license!  She has to have her learner’s permit for at least one year, before she can apply for the full license which includes the actual driving test here in GA. Teaching one to drive is nerve-wracking and we still have parallel parking to practice.  I feel you *pain*….uh, anxiety :)

  • Hello Mrs. Bakker. I was just reading my mom’s xanga and saw your picture so I wanted to comment you and say hello.
    Well, have a good day…

  • Tim, what are **you** worried about? You don’t have to learn to drive with me in the car! I’ll keep my son on the side streets, K?

Oh Dana, do you have a DD #5? If not, we’re in the same place, except you are a year ahead of me. I hope all goes well. My oldest son failed the driving test (the first thing he failed in his life). An emergency vehicle came up behind him while he was in the middle turn lane. I think he made the turn to get out of the way, and he should have stayed put. We laugh about it now…

Hello, Sarah! Whenever we meet, in person or online, you bring a smile to my face. I’d really like to hear that operatic voice you’ve been working on. Are you singing the Copland pieces with Peter? I was planning to, but I have company this weekend and don’t feel I can duck out to go sing a concert. I love “Shall We Gather At the River.” Copland’s harmonies are challenging, yes?

  • I’m so excited for Son #3!!  Daughter #3 is daily reminding me her birthday is VERY SOON MOM….

(Technical question, as I’m slow on the uptake: Are we not to mention names?)

  • With Ken, I kept telling him, ‘You’re doing ok, you’re doing ok’.. and then finally one day I realized he *was* doing ok…and I had been telling *myself* that for all those tense miles!

Crista is our last and she had a movie date last night (Sat.)…She left in the twilight and came home about 11…when we told my mom today about the event, the *date* part didn’t scare her as much as Crista driving back from LaGrande on the dark…(Me? I worried about both…he is a nice guy and I know is mom. They go to our church. He’s going away to college…)

Now, Ken&Rach are getting ready to bring my granddaughter out on a plane, *that* is another matter all together! Those things fall out of the sky, you know! ; )

Where could we go , but to the Lord!
