  • Taking Suggestions

Blogging will be spotty for the next few days.  Our church Family Camp is this weekend.  My son and I shopped for food today, completely filling the Suburban with cases and boxes of edibles.  Shoppers always approach us and ask “What are you going to do with all that ______?”  (26 loaves of bread, 40 pounds of breakfast links, 36 pounds of butter, 10 #10 cans of green beans, 24 red peppers…)  One of the best gifts we can give the mothers in our church is a weekend free of cooking and cleaning up.  We hire the best cook in the world and the teenagers graciously do all the cleanup.

Next week we are leaving the shire and trekking to the city for some medical appointments.  The city = shopping.  Shopping = Trader Joes and Costco.  I am a veteran Costco shopper, but Trader Joes is a relatively new delight.  Do you have a favorite item at either/both store/s that you like to get?  Please leave a comment and let me know.

I’m delighted that Costco has restocked two items that have been MIA for quite some time: Sun-Dried Tomatos and Aronia Berry Juice.

  • Have fun at family camp.  I’m guessing this is church related.

Near me is a Sam’s Warehouse and a BJ’s, not a Costco, although there are those in the metro area.  I suppose my favorite buy is coffee beans.  I used to warehouse shop more often than I do now.  I sorta have to wear blinders so that I dont overbuy :)

  • Dana, I’ve been to Sam’s when I visited my sister, and Costco is a clone of Sam’s. We shop about 4 times a year at Costco and stock up on necessaries, but it’s *really easy* to overbuy.

Yep, it’s a church family camp. Our speaker is Pastor Bruce Ray – have you heard of him? He wrote a book about child rearing. His theme will be trusting Christ, not ______ – four sessions and different fill-in-the-blank each session.

  • Have a good time at the camp!  Wish I could go–a weekend without thinking about cooking and cleaning–how delightful!

    Take care,

I would love to hear Bruce Ray.  His parenting book is my favorite, the one I recommend most, that is.  His chapter on praying for your children struck me way back in my early years of mothering…..never mind the princples in the book.

Hope you have a chance to blog about any of his talks.

  • Wish we had a Trader Joe’s somewhere near here. Costco too. There is a Sam’s Club not too far away – but like you I have a fear if overbuying at such places.

Have a great time at camp.
