  • Fine Art Friday – Peter Ilsted

Girl Reading by Peter Vilhelm Ilsted (1861-1933)

Peter Ilsted painted several pictures of women reading.  Some of them are at the side, some are shown from behind, but they all appear lost in their books.  Doesn’t it make you wonder what kind of home he grew up in?  Did he have sisters or a mother who grabbed odd moments to pick up a book?

You can read more about him here

“His art expresses the essence of life in Copenhagen at the turn of the
twentieth century:  tranquility and orderliness, contentment with home
and family and the isolation from the political and social turmoil in
the countries to the south.  He was one of a group of Danish artists
known for works of sun-filled rooms utilizing subtle colors, simplistic
interiors inhabited with one or more figures.”

    Happy Friday, all!

  • Another beautiful rendition of one of your favorite topics:  reading.

And so, you have introduced me to a new artist.  Neat.  It’s fun to see how many people are participating in *your* Fine Art Friday!

Been busy and havent read anymore in the Friends book.  But I am putting it into action tomorrow by treating a dear, life-long friend to a birthday lunch.

  • That is just so beautiful! I want to join her in a companionable silence filled only with page turns, soft chuckles, and the whistle of the tea kettle boiling now and then.

My summer reading has stalled, it is so hard to read with a two year old, Daniel, in the house, mostly awake. I am wretchedly plodding through a Jeeves and Wooster, but bedtime is a hard time to pay attention, too.

I will be doing a Taming of the Shrew unit this early winter, the school will be doing that one for the winter play…I am relieved that there are no matronly parts in that for me to *volunteer* for. Last year was fun, but taxing.
