We are back from a three day backpack trip,
a tradition that various cross-sections of our family
have sustained for the last 15 years.
We almost feel like we own the camp spot where we stay.
This is the view at dusk.
A photo essay will come soon.

Is any pleasure on earth as great
as a circle of Christian friends by a fire?~ C. S. Lewis

Oh, fun times !!
I was wondering where you were
What a brave woman you are!!! Does this include a tent, or just out in the open air? And I’m wondering what meals consisted of….
Glad you had a great weekend!
Carrie
We slept in the open air. (One guy brought a one-man tent). We woke up to rain yesterday morning. Our “church” service was canceled as we packed up.
More tomorrow.
Meals: instant oatmeal for breakfast, tortillas (plain or filled) for lunch, and nice meals for dinner (steak, pasta, carrots). Lots, LOTS, of snacks. Popcorn fixed on a tiny camp stove.
Mom, you forgot to add one of the main staples of camp, INSTANT CUP OF NOODLES. Basically they are pre-made Ramen noodles that you just put hot water on.
Do you have a source for the Lewis quote?
Sounds like fun…except the rain part, but I’m sure even that had its good side! rain drops on roses and all that!
and no cougars and the like? What could be better!
Fun Fun!! Where do you go?
I’m posting my comment to your comment here as well as on my site as I wanted you to get it and wanted others to see it on my site.
“The price of living in a fantasy world” with this: “… is distorted perception and lack of contentment.”
I like that! My idea behind this post was directed more at others misinturpreting my intent and reading manipulation behind every honest word. But I also agree with you.
Source of quote:
Letter to Dom Bede Griffiths December 21. 1941. In context: “Williams, Dyson of Reading, & my brother (Anglicans) and Tolkien and my doctor, Havard (your church) are the “Inklings” to whom my Problem of Pain was dedicated. We meet on Friday evenings in my rooms: theoretically to talk about literature, but in fact nearly always to talk about something better. What I owe to them all is incalculable. Dyson and Tolkien were the immediate human causes of my own conversion. Is any pleasure on earth as great as a circle of Christian friends by a good fire?”
Brenda – no cougars, but a mountain goat siting. We’ve heard bear stories, and lots of hunters hunt elk there.
KC – We were thinking at different angles, eh? The traditional Eastern Oregon answer to the question, “Where did you go?” is: “I could tell you, but then I’d have to kill you.” The closest town is called Granite, which will make sense to you when you see pictures tomorrow.
I could nearly smell the air! I look forward to more pictures but the first one is a blessing! I like to make a stew like thing with lentils and dry peas and canned beans and lots of veggies with a bouillion base. It just sits and smells good for a bit and then warms the whole of you. I totally loved the Lewis quote. I’d rather be next to a fire than nearly anywhere! Love your heart! M
